Term 4 Week 4

We collected rubbish that we found lying around the school
We only did it for four days and found 100 pieces of rubbish!
So each day about 25 people decided just to leave their rubbish on the ground instead of taking a short walk to
a rubbish bin....very disappointing.

Term 4 Week 3

We put our thinking hats on and solve more problems in algebra.
As part of our unit on healthy eating we take
a look at the school garden
and browse through supermarket brochures to see
what's on offer locally.

Munch, munch, munch....food fresh from the school garden is SOOO good for you!

Term 4 Week 2

We study algebra with hands-on puzzles that all have a secret code to be found.
We discovered that to build 3 step, 4 step and 5 step staircases you needed 9 blocks, 16 blocks and 25 blocks...so the code to find the number of blocks we needed was:
the number of steps multiplied by itself, so a 10 step staircase would need 100 blocks!
Finding the answers needed a LOT of trial and error,
persistence was the key!
The students make sure the tadpoles get breakfast each day
so they keep growing!

Term 4 Week 1

The masked parade is this Friday.
We will gather in Montgomery square at 4.30
(parade begins at 5.30).
Postponement day is Saturday at the same time.
Look for the sign for row B2 and the Tahunanui School banner.
You need to bring your mask and be wearing a t-shirt the same colour as your mask (blue for Room 11)
Remember to see the teacher to be marked off the register when you arrive AND before you leave.

We learned many things about staying safe in the water.
For example the importance of ALWAYS wearing lifejackets in boats.
We have new arrivals in class...
some tiny tadpoles that will grow into frogs over the next month.

Term 3 Week 9

We start practising techniques such as curling and fringing to make a different type of mask.
These ones are not for wearing but to display on the wall.
We shared them with Room 5 , they gave us lots of positive feedback and asked us very clever questions about how we made them.

We started by just focusing on the hair and eyebrows.

Term 3 Week 8

We glue our feathers on and our wonderful Pukekos are created...all ready to march down the street on the 19th of October (20th if it rains on the 19th)
The Room 11 students will need a blue t-shirt to wear on the day.
The other classes making a kakapo will need a green t-shirt and those classes making the tui will need a black t-shirt.

We paint and cut out the feathers for our bird masks.
Once again thanks to the parent helpers...
we hope your hands have recovered from using child-sized scissors!

The Pukeko masks awaiting the next (and final) step when we will be attaching all the feathers.

We put rockets together that show different ways of representing fractions.

We start painting the base-colour on our masks.
Thanks SO much to the parent helpers that gave us a hand
beginning our masks and beaks.
Now that the paint is dry our next step is
getting our cool blue feathers ready!
