Term 2 Week 5 - We begin our 'momentum' experiments by measuring speed down ramps. Wow...SO many page views! Great to see so many people using the blog!

"We made playdough balls and the balls were squishy" - Maria
"We had to make big ones and small ones" - Mareva

"We had to roll the playdough balls down a high and a low ramp" - Wiremu

"We measured how far they rolled after they left the ramps" Isabel
"We had to measure how far the playdoh ball went, we used our feet to measure...it had to be the same persons feet every time beacuse otherwise all the answers would be different" - Georgia
.
"We had to record how far the balls went.  We found that the bigger ball went further on both ramps". - Kate

"Both balls went faster on the high ramp because of the angle" - Tom

Term 2 Week 4

We made paper planes and measured how far they flew using both metres and centimetres.
Some planes made it tricky by flying through bushes
or landing on them!
Co-operation was needed to get accurate measurements.
Some planes flew over 5 metres!
Reading to the class is not just for teachers,
especially when students decide to share a special story they have written themselves in their own time.

The Sugar Snaps keep growing.  Some are 17 cm tall now.
We are going to have to tie them up!

Look back at older blog posts (especially term 2 week 2)
to see how much the Sugar Snaps have grown.

We learned about worms and wormfarms.
What amazing ancient creatures they are...they were around before the dinosaurs!

Term 2 Week 3

Our Sugar Snap Peas have grown so tall!
Last week they were 2cm tall.  Now they range from 6cm to 11cm!
They are perfect for practising our measurement skills during Maths.
The Peas all reaching for the sun and enjoying all the care and attention the Room 11 students are giving them.

We have been using rulers to measure things in
millimetres, centimetres, and metres.

We have also used pieces of string that are a metre long to measure different objects around the school.

Term 2 Week 2: Our Sugar Snap Peas begin to grow! We practise with the Rakau.

What a nice surprise this morning when we got to school and saw the first shoots appearing!
Every single pea that was planted has begun to grow! Now the students just need to keep looking after them, you've done very well so far.

It takes concentration, co-ordination, co-operation and good timing to succeed with the Rakau!

Term 2 Week 1 Welcome back everyone!

We look at feelings in Maori

We plant some Sugar Snap peas
First we all had to make a hole 2 and a half centimetres deep

Next we each put a pea into the hole we had made

Then we covered the hole with seed raising mix

Finally we watered the seeds...now we have to look after them.  They should begin to sprout in just over a week.

Term 1 Week 10 - We raised $66 for the gala by selling our photo frames! We use playdoh to create some of the minibeasts we have looked at. We paint our clay boats, we turn ourselves into strange minibeasts in our E-Learning.

We finish off our topic by creating minibeasts out of playdoh.
We had a mix of creatures with many legs, 8 legs, 6 legs, no legs, wings, shells, stings, pincers, warning colours, camouflage, exoskeletons and many other features that we studied over the last few weeks.
